FEATURED ARTIST FOR AUGUST: GrooveSession
Good things really DO come in small packages!
This is how I like to describe GrooveSession...
"Three" musicians, is just a number to these guys, because they truly sound like several on any given song! Their music is a combination of funky, groovy fusion, with a twist of philanthropic and eclectic global unity. Some bands are so far out, that only musical purists can enjoy them...but not these guys. I mean yes, they ARE technical, savvy, intricate, and well versed in the art of musicianship, but by no means do you have to be a musical savant to get what they do. For the non-musician, there are hooks, melodies, toe-tapping energy, and vocals to attach yourself to without really understanding the dynamics and crafting of each tune. For the well-versed musicians and music aficionados, there is that and more. Bassist Ronnie Sanchez lays down lines that Boosty Collins and Jaco Pastorious could easily connect with. The drum grooves by brother Manny Sanchez are reminiscent of Mitch Mitchell and Louis Bellson in their peak. Guitarist Sarven Manguiat cooks up intricate rhythms and solos that remind me of great albums like Santana's "Abraxas", or "Shakti", with John McLaughlin. The best way for me to put it is this: What the band RUSH did for Rock Music History, is what Groove Session is doing for Jam Bands!
This is how the band describes themselves:
Groove Session is a three-piece music group. Hard working and easy going...a band with a brand and a sound, on their quest to end the jammin' famine. A music that is a positive, multi-genre blend of rock n’ roll, and suitably thought of as movin', groovin' music. Catch a session LIVE and you’ll see how each session is freshly played as if it could be their last, with dynamics and power to spare! They have hundreds of performances under their belt, and also open for many of today's greatest bands, such as George Clinton, Little Feat, Karl Denson's Tiny Universe, Ivan Neville’s Dumpstaphunk, New Riders of the Purple Sage, The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, 7 Walkers, Greg Adams, Tea Leaf Green,George Porter Jr., The Radiators, Stanton Moore, Robert Walter, Lubriphonic, Blue Turtle Seduction, Big Sam’s Funky Nation, Brian Jordan Band, Kim Manning, Ozomatli and many more! This trio, made up of Sarven Manguiat on guitar & keyboards, and Brothers Sanchez, Ronnie on bass & Manny holding down drums and vocals... Magical, professional and musical, with the ability to light a fire with their sound! ...Groove Session is your friend. Call them a jam band, or simply a band that jams!!!
